Evaluations
Evaluations are done to assist us with identifying the specific issues of concern and to give us a measure of how the brain is currently functioning. Two kinds of evaluations are provided:

QEEG:
A QEEG (Quantitative electroencephalogram) is a comprehensive measure of the brainwave patterns taken simultaneously at 19 sites on the brain. The data is sent electronically to a neurologist for evaluation and comparison to a normative database of same aged individuals. A 50-page report is returned to us with recommendations and protocols for neurofeedback training. This type of evaluation is highly recommended for all new clients but is definitely required for anyone with brain injuries, a history of head trauma, seizures, or severe behavioral presentations. A QEEG is also the only way to identify appropriate training for learning disabilities.

TOVA:
The TOVA (Test of Variables of Attention) is a continuous performance test that assists in the identification of problems with attention. The test is a standard diagnostic tool for ADD/ADHD. We provide this test as part of our evaluation process regardless of the presenting issues. Our experience is that ADD is often misidentified and the information from this test can give us a clear picture of how an individual is actually performing.

Training

Protocol Applications
We use a variety of types of feedback for our training including DVD movies, music, and responsive visual displays. This training requires focus on whatever feedback is chosen for about 30 minutes. We find that everyone is able to select something that easily holds his or her attention. Children do especially well with the DVD movies.

Alpha Theta Training
Alpha Theta training is a special form of neurofeedback that is done with the eyes closed. During this training the individual begins with a visualization of a situation they are working on changing. The brain is then trained into a high theta state where the brain is very open to suggestion. This type of training is very useful for increasing peak performance and for trauma resolution.

Coaching
We provide coaching as a regular part of our weekly sessions to enhance and encourage change. In some cases additional techniques will be taught for daily home use. Coaching provides an opportunity to build a relationship with our clients and to discuss any issues that arise during the course of training.

Coordination with other service providers
We often receive referrals from other service providers such as psychiatrists, therapists, counselors, and school personnel. We are happy to coordinate with these professionals with your signed permission. Coordination allows for a smoother reduction of medications and maximizes the benefit from all providers.
